Default Loot scaling

I don't know if it's just me or the system is messed up or what, but I swear every time I go out to do anything with a PUG (even guildies, allies, or friends), the drops suck. For instance:

Anyone who goes afk gets a gold drop, a noob who aggroes three groups gets a lockpick, and a know-it-all who complains if anyone dies gets a tome. You get the picture. Why is that the noobs, afkers, and a-holes get all the good drops? Seems to me the loot scaling isn't working out the way it should be.

Some of us actually do our best to play the game and do it right and we barely get a white drop, much less anything valuable.

Anyone else experienced this? What are your thoughts on the loot scaling? Like, do you think it's bugged or fair? etc.

That's not loot scaling.
That's luck.

Are you really saying that the game determines who is a noob (not newb), or an ass, and gives them better drops? Like it looks at what you've written and done and bases drops off of that?

Are you serious?

Or am i just bad with the internet sarcasms?

Some people tend to notice coincidences more than others.
You are one of those, like me.

For each time you see an AFK getting a god drop, you'll get another one. You just remember the bad ones.

Just don't mind them.

O.o'

What does loot scaling have to do with being a noob, afk and a-holes? Loot scaling deals with the size of your party and after that its a matter of luck.

While we're not dealing with loot scaling, but party drop mechanics- the point is the same. But there's no conspiracy- it's just really terrible luck that all the morons get the good drops.

My guild has four people that do a lot of stuff together. Every time that we run out to do anything as a whole group, two of us - myself and a guy we'll call "Ranger" - get all the good drops. The other two - we'll call them "Necro" and "Dervish" - get roughly 35-40 spots in their bags filled with whites and guaranteed lockpick breaking for grapes from HM chests. I got back to back golds from enemies last night. They got Mesmer tomes and broken picks from back to back chests.

Is it loot scaling? Not at all related. Is it a giant conspiracy aimed to get me to buy GW2? Jury's still out on that one (aka no). It's just the random number generator screwing you. Plus it's like that old saying - it's far easier to remember the bad than the good.

IMO, luck.

And mine is pretty bad in general. The retards I team up with do have good luck... but seriously, I'd rather be a good player with horrible luck than a horrible player who doesn't deserve his luck >_>.

Yup, you got it. Anet records the chat logs and the level of douchebaggery is directly proportional to the goodness of drops.

/sarcasmoff
It just seems like it happens more often because you notice it. If a friendly PUG partner gets a lockpick, you kind of shrug and go w/e, but if the jackhole gets one, you kind of think "Wow, he really doesn't deserve one" and tend to remember it more.

Disclaimer: When I say "you", I don't mean "you in particular", I mean "people in general."

As much as it sounds like something ArenaNet would do, no, it's just random numbers.

No no, I know it's not a conspiracy. hehe Okay I guess it isn't loot scaling, but I agree with the ones that say you tend to remember the bad luck more than the good luck. Sure it's luck, but...yeah. It still sucks.

Maybe I should have called the thread "bad luck drops" or something.

Maybe the game isn't giving anything to you because it has detected you are a whiner devoid of even a facade of rudimentary logic.

Yea it's all luck, sometimes I'm the best in the group and I get crap. Sometimes I didn't do a damn and I get good quality golds.

In an attempt to sound very mature.

Loot is assigned by a computer. Computers don't care about human feelings. That is all.

The system is flawed IMO............

While doing Norn runs with my monk I have seen one guy for 3 straight Runs get all the good stuff Elite tomes, lock picks, gold items, regular tomes and after he left the system didn't spread the wealth it actually shifted to another person..........and this isn't the first time I have seen this, I saw it happen to one guy twice 12 hours apart...........while doing Vanguard runs I join a pug group and it was a GOOD one, this one guy got every thing. I stop doing runs went to chill came back and was rushing to finish up Vanguard before the Double weekend was over and the Same dude join my team and the same crap happen again.............while the system is Adequate it's Flawed IMO it favors people from time to time and destroy others, my guildie got a Q10 Obsidian sword 6 weeks after they were released since then his LUCK has been GARBAGE.......... he has yet to recover any thing that resembles decent luck.
